Tanah Merah means "red earth" in Malay, after the red laterite cliffs that once lined this stretch of coast.
Tanah Merah MRT on the East West Line opened in 1989. Condos along Tanah Merah Kechil Road and Avenue followed from the 1990s, from The Tanamera (1994) to Grandeur Park Residences (2020).
